About
My name is Abby Damico. I am a graduate from The University of Findlay and currently reside in Charlotte, NC and work as a High School Art Teacher.
My passion for horses and the sport of riding has influenced much of my work. I am drawn to their power, agility, grace and demeanor, which is what inspires most of my pieces. They possess the unknown which is why they are so fascinating to me. What I get from riding and training horses is what I want to express in my work. I want to show the power that they have within them.
My style is both loose and precise. I like to use gestural movement to begin creating my pieces and end up with an accurate figure that express movement or emotion. In my paintings, color is limited. The use of more neutrals gives the pieces a darker look but the subject itself gives the piece a sense of grace.
Most subjects for my digital photography are that of the equine. I love doing portrait sessions of pets and families and detailed works of animals. When possible, I prefer to shoot my subjects in a low key format to create drama and contrast.
My drawings are more loose and colorful than my paintings. I enjoy putting a playful twist on each piece either with color or mixed media. For each drawing I try to capture the personality of the animal of which I am referencing to create a unique and one of a kind piece.
